Joseph Hawa graduated from the American Academy of Art in Chicago under the nationally known artist and instructor, the late Irving Shapiro. This was followed by additional courses taken at Northwestern University in Ilinois. His first job out of art school was as a graphic designer and illustrator for Sears and Roebuck. In 1975, Joseph made a leap of faith and followed his dream to become a full time fine artist
I met Joseph in 2006 during a visit to the Santora Building in Santa Ana, California. Upon meeting Joseph, I was immediately taken aback by his ability to master a variety of styles, genre and mediums including Abstract Expressionism, Cubism, Impressionism, Watercolor and Figurative painting. His palette knife paintings are exquisite with their courageous strokes of brilliant color. Joseph believes that "art is not brush and paint but rather what the artist thinks and then transfers to the canvas."
